July 28, 2010 (BATON ROUGE) – Former LSU Tiger Basketball star Brandon Bass, who now plays for the Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association, will host the first “Brandon Bass All Star Weekend Takeover, July 30-Aug. 1 in Baton Rouge.
The event will support “The Brandon Bass Reach Back Foundation,” to provide school supplies, backpacks, and college financial assistance for the 2010-2011 school year to help under-privileged students within the Baton Rouge area.
The weekend starts on July 30 with the Bass All Star Concert with Grammy award winning artist Monica at 8 p.m. at the Baton Rouge River Center. On July 31 at 2:00pm p.m., Bass along with several of his celebrity friends will host the Celebrity Bowling Battle at All-Star Lanes with a 9 p.m. Red Carpet Celebrity After Party at the Lyceum Ballroom. The event concludes on Aug. 1 with a Celebrity Brunch at 10:30 a.m. at the Belle Hotel of Baton Rouge.
Brandon hopes that this weekend of events will not only bring family fun entertainment to Baton Rouge but will also be an instrumental tool to assist and inspire under-privileged youth within his own community of Baton Rouge. His passion for reaching back into lives of youth in disadvantaged communities comes from his heart and experience of growing up in similar environment himself, and he realizes had there been similar events and/or opportunities during his childhood that maybe more of his peers would have been inspired to reach for their dreams too because Brandon truly cares about the youth of today and believes they are theleaders for tomorrow.
